Description
Iranian Film Festival – World Premiere Screenings in Barrie
The Barrie Persian Association is proud to present the Iranian Film Festival on September 19 & 20, 2026, at Georgian Theatre in Barrie.
This special two-day cultural event will feature the first-ever public screenings anywhere in the world of four internationally recognized and award-winning Iranian films. Although these films have received recognition through international festivals and awards, they have never previously been presented to a public audience.
The program includes the feature film The Lonely Woman, followed by three short films: The Last Five Minutes, Grey City, and I Want to Study.
The films explore powerful social realities, resilience, human experiences, and stories connected to contemporary Iranian society. The festival also creates a unique opportunity for cultural exchange and for audiences in Barrie and surrounding communities to experience important works of Iranian cinema for the first time.
Before the 3:00 PM screening of The Lonely Woman, there will be a short bilingual interview and discussion with the producer in English and Farsi. The festival will also include a special tribute in memory of the late Reza Samipour, who appeared in The Lonely Woman and contributed to the production as an assistant director and planner.
The same program will be presented on both days, giving guests the flexibility to attend either Saturday, September 19 or Sunday, September 20.
Schedule:
Doors Open: 2:30 PM
The Lonely Woman: 3:00 PM
Break: approximately 5:00–6:00 PM
Three Short Films: 6:00 PM
We are especially proud and honoured that this program is supported by the City of Barrie through its Arts & Culture Grant.
This festival is open to the wider community and offers a meaningful opportunity to celebrate cinema, culture, artistic expression, and diversity in Barrie.
