The past year has brought significant challenges to businesses and employees alike. For example, an issue that is currently of increasing importance is childcare for employees who need to work from home or are obligated to come into the office. What are employers’ obligations to their employees when they come forward with childcare issues associated with the pandemic?
As well, while we were distracted with the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ontario Court of Appeal made a decision that has the potential to invalidate most employment contracts’ termination provisions. The implications are that during a time when businesses are already struggling, they may find they owe a lot more pay in lieu notice when terminating an employee.
We are very pleased that Jonathan De Biasi of Dooley Lucenti LLP is prepared to share his expertise with us at 1:00 pm on March 23, 2021, where he will discuss the above and other key developments in employment law that may have significant implications for your business.
