It's Your Downtown - The Heart of Our City
In 1973, at the request of the local business community, City Council passed a special by-law establishing a Business Improvement Area (BIA) to help maintain and enhance the city's downtown core.
The Downtown Barrie BIA (referred to as Downtown Barrie) encompasses from High Street to Poyntz and Collier/Ross Streets to Simcoe.
Right now, there are over 600 property owners and business operators within Downtown Barrie. All businesses assessed for business taxes within the Downtown Barrie boundaries are automatically included in the membership and contribute a 'levy' to the BIA's operating budget.
Mission Statement: Establish Downtown Barrie as the economically leading mid-size commercial, retail and entertainment community within the city, region, province and country while working within a framework of high quality, guiding values.
