Small businesses are vital to the Ontario economy. They provide services and products that meet local needs and often serve as suppliers to larger companies. Small businesses make up 98 percent of total businesses, and two thirds of private sector employment in Ontario.
Last year, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC), in partnership with local chambers of commerce and boards of trade, launched the Small Business Too Big to Ignore campaign to champion this crucial component of Ontario's economy. The objective was to both highlight the success of small business in Ontario, and to develop policy solutions to the most significant barriers to small business growth, in preparation for discussions leading up to next year's elections.
It’s critical that government remain responsive to these challenges to ensure the future competitiveness of small businesses in Ontario.
